NEWBORN SESSION & WHAT TO EXPECT

ONCE BABY HAS ARRIVED

Once the moment you have been waiting for, when your wee one has finally arrived…I ask that you contact me as soon as possible to schedule your newborn session. (If you are having a scheduled C-Section or know when you are being induced–you can contact me ahead of time to make a tentative appointment. We can firm that up once the baby has arrived). The best time to photograph your newborn is between 4-10 days old, a baby is generally the sleepiest and most cooperative during the first two weeks of life. If it is not possible, it is recommended to schedule at three weeks old or less.

LENGTH AND ROOM CONDITIONS OF SESSION

Your session will last around 3-4 hours. It may take less if your baby stays sleepy and is easily and quickly posed. I allow time in the session for feeding and changing when needed.

For the comfort of the baby, I bring a small space heater which helps the baby stay nice and comfortable while I have them undressed for the session. If your outlets can not handle a space heater without causing an outage, please let me know. You may then have to crank your heat up in the home.

WHAT TO WEAR–PARENTS

Please have both white and black tops. Tank tops are best for mom and t-shirts with no words or logos are best for dad. Other choices would be clothing of neutral color. Depending on dad’s comfort level, photographing the baby on daddy’ bare skin creates incredible images.

WHAT TO WEAR-BABY

In all newborn sessions, I photograph the baby in the nude, as this is the most natural way to capture all of their tiny little details from heat to toe. You can have the baby simply diapered and swaddled in a blanket when I arrive.

I also have hats, wraps and other fun props to use during your session. If you have any significant family heirlooms or items that you would like to use during the session, please have those ready and I will try to incorporate that into your session. However, please realize that I cannot guarantee the use of those items as it generally depends on the cooperation of the baby and the safety of the item.

WHAT TO WEAR–SIBLINGS

capturing images of siblings is a wonderful way to create a new bond between baby and big brother(s) or sister(s).

Prior to your session, I recommend having them practice holding their new baby brother or sister at home so that they are familiar with staying still while holding baby.

Please have solid color shirts for boys (no logos) and either solid color dress for girls in more neutral colors like white, navy, light pastels, etc. Sometimes I will have the boys pose shirtless with the baby to capture that skin to skin natural look. I also have a white wrap for young girls to wrap around their upper body to have some skin exposed with the newborn in the photo–it’s a very natural and beautiful look.

Please have snacks and any other items available that will help the older sibling stay happy and content during the session.

And please, let them know that this will be fun–no need to worry or stress.

SESSION PROPS

I will supply and have readily available a multitude of pros and blankets for the session. All of my props and blankets are washable and “baby proof”, so please don’t worry if the baby has an accident during your session.

I also have a collection of hats and headbands, etc to incorporate during the sessions.

Please note: Baby’s safety is #1 throughout the entire session. If I am using a prop that needs additional spotting, I will ask you to assist as we capture those images.

RESCHEDULING AND RE-SHOOTS

If after your session has been scheduled, and for some reason you are unable to keep that appointment due to your health or the babies health, please contact me with at least 24 hours notice so that we can reschedule your session.

For baby boys who are being circumcised, please schedule their session at least 48 hours post surgery to allow time to heal.

Very rarely do we need to schedule a re-shoot, however if baby is having a difficult time during the session, a re-shoot may be scheduled before bay is 14 days old.
